Understanding EN 18031-1: Key Benefits of Certification

EN 18031-1 is a Harmonised Standard established by the European Union to support the cybersecurity requirements of the RED. It defines the general cybersecurity requirements for internet-connected radio equipment. Manufacturers can use this standard as a technical basis to demonstrate compliance with the latest regulations.

Software Upgrade: Five OS Security Enhancements

To meet EN 18031-1 requirements, Weintek has launched a security hardening initiative for the new OS (V20251118 or later), actively implementing the Security by Default design principle:

1. Advanced Authentication: The new OS introduces a mandatory secure password activation mechanism. Upon first login, users are guided to create a strong  password, while account management across system levels is strengthened to eliminate weak-password risks at the source.

2. System Hardening: Through in-depth system optimization, the OS disables unnecessary FTP Server functions and background services by default, while streamlining network transmission mechanisms to reduce device exposure to attacks in connected environments.

3. Stronger Encryption: The system uses stricter encrypted communication protocols by default, such as TLS 1.2 or later, and optimizes legacy protocol settings to provide stronger privacy protection for industrial data transmission on site.

4. Secure Device Identity and Keys: The OS enhances the generation and storage architecture of internal device keys, ensuring that every device has a unique and secure digital identity while improving the reliability of connected authentication.

5. Controlled Environment Protection: For products deployed in controlled industrial environments, Weintek has established dedicated risk management measures to ensure stable device operation within industrial network architectures.
